Classic Alphabet
I'm trying to learn Arabic, please help!?
I really want to learn Arabic, but I've heard that there are several different types (modern-standard, classic, Lebanese, Egyptian, etc.). I'd like to speak the one that's spoken most, but which kind is that?
Also, I know that you're supposed to write from right to left, but do you write the actual letters from right to left, or do you just write normally then move to the left instead of the right?
Also, which Arabic alphabet is correct? I've seen many different Arabic alphabets but I don't know which I can rely on.
Lastly, is it really difficult to learn? How long does it usually take to learn on average?

I would start with Modern Standard Arabic - the spoken dialects evolved from MSA, each in their own direction, so it will be the best "home base."
There's one Arabic alphabet, but many different fonts or typefaces or styles, just as in English - handwriting is based on the ruq'ah style. Some non-Arabic languages that use the Arabic alphabet, like Farsi, have extra letters to represent sounds Arabic doesn't have. And yes, the letters and words are written proceeding right-to-left (which means that books start on what would be the last page in English).
I wouldn't call it easy, but it's certainly possible. Some of the sounds are hard for English people to pronounce - there are a lot of sounds pronounced deep in the throat - and Arabic grammar and word formation are quite different. Expect a very steep learnng curve at first, then it gets easier.
