Summer Fruit
This summer I'll plant a vegetable garden and fruit, but I'm new to this, I need some help first?
I live in the Dallas / Fort worth of texas area. When should I start preparing the garden. For example, when should I do with all soils, mix the compost, sow the seeds in their own little things to get started? What are the easiest fruits and vegetables that a beginner can start? tips and tricks would be much appreciated. thank you. and I have an acre in the back and a lot of time on my hands so that the garden is going to be big enough.
Hiya, I live in the San Antonio so I can just tell you about our region. I'm much further south so we are much dryer. But as you already have, we know how hot here in Texas, murderer of Hot! 
I found the peppers, squash and beans and pumpkins grow much as long as you you tend to them daily. Animals are a major pest. We have a lot of waffle / voles that attack gardens and eat the tender roots. Also fireants are a threat as well. Begin to work the land now and ask questions about the use to control fire ants in your local nursery. I do not advise not poisonous because it is a garden to eat. They may have alternatives. The fruits are somewhat more difficult to manage. We used to try strawberries, but the heat was just too much and we could not compete withthe birds. orange and lemon trees do wonderfully well here in Texas. We have a couple of each and even if they are only about 8 feet each, we have more fruit than we can manage! even among the 4 families!: We live on several ha well. It is now time to start making the plowed ground and develop a plan of plots. Remember some plants need room to roam as Watermellon and squash and a need vertical supports such as peas and tomatoes.
